"When the pupil is ready to learn, the teacher will appear"

By: Anonymous

Those of you who have me on Facebook might probably have noticed that my list of Favourite Quotes is very long. Too long... yet not enough space for me! Cos the quotes that I love are wayyyy too many! So I aim to cut down the quotes on Facebook, rather, I'll post a link in that section to this blog!

I came across this quote while reading a book on financial planning. As with many aspects of financial planning, people don't listen! We only like to hear the latest buzz on how to make money by playing stocks & shares, but we refuse to think of our other financial needs such as insurance, cash flow and loan financing. But that's for another time...

When we think of "teacher", I guess most people of Chinese heritage will think of this guy:

Or maybe something a bit more casual?

(PS: This guy is Confucius, for the uninformed)

My take on this quote is that we need to open our hearts. Only when the heart is open, then our ears will be open too. Many times we are told many things, but there are times when we simply refuse to listen, like when our parents nag at us, or when a Citibank guy asks you to sign up for their latest credit card, or even when our lecturers just drone on and on... and we find ourselves "played out" in the exams! Haha!

Only when we are seeking someone/something, then we will have the thirst, and only then will this "teacher" appear and we will be willing to listen.

So we know that we need to open our hearts, but have you thought about how can you be a TEACHER to someone else instead?

"You can't HANDLE the Truth!"

By: Colonel Nathan Jessep (Jack Nicholson in "A Few Good Men")

Ahh... to me, this is THE defining Jack Nicholson moment.

Now I've always admired Jack Nicholson as an actor, though, sadly, I have't caught many of his movies. He isn't exactly the very top of my list, but somewhere near there.

What the character says from here on actually speaks a lot about a country's defence. Having served my own country in the military, I can empathise with his words, although the approach taken was not the best.

You might want to catch this clip available on Youtube:

But theatrics aside, how often are we able to take the truth? Every time things don't go our way, or when things go messy in love and relationships, or when we're told that we're simply just NOT GOOD...

How many of us have the strength to handle truths? Are we able to handle it by ourselves? Or do we surround ourselves with friends?

I think, at the end, even if we opt for the latter option, we'll still need to face the issue some day. Take things in a positive light, nasty people can also be trying to help you, but the real question is whether we're able to better ourselves! :D

Do you think you are able to handle The Truth?

Welcome

Hi everyone and welcome! It took me a while to get back to blogging, given some bad experiences and holding myself to high standards.

I had rave reviews for my Photoblog back then, but this is something different altogether. The lesson I learnt from my Photoblog is that a theme is very important for a blog's success. With that in mind, the theme I chose for this is "Words".

Now words are a very important part of our lives, and there is just sooooooo much potential for expression in them. Personally, I'm a fan of quotes, so that's another motivation.

So let's start off with the title quote:
"But good words. That's where ideas begin."
- David Marcus (Merritt Butrick in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)

OK, those of you who know me long enough know how much of a Sci-Fi fan I can be, but rest assured, this is not the reason for choosing this as the title quote.

I think this resonates with me because of how true and how simple it's put. Indeed, the power of words inspire others. They plant thoughts into people, ideas, dreams, aspirations...

I think a very good example of this is the most well-printed book in history: The Holy Bible. Through simple words, the Christian faith has spread across the world and continues to inspires thousands, if not millions, of people each moment.

When was the last time you really said/wrote something that made yourself go "Wow..." at the end?
